Text Box: LAST TWO CONCERTS
The September and October concerts were the best attended concerts yet with more than 350 people in the audience at the September concert. The expenses for these concerts were met by Rupert’s ‘Music for All’ programme through ‘Home Front Recall.’ Both concerts contained music relating to World War II, and reference was made to the men and women who fought during the war. Special medals had been struck and were presented to those in the audience who had actually fought in that war.

Text Box: DISABLED ACCESS
The major work in connection with the provision of disabled access to West Park Church should be completed before Christmas. This will be via the side entrance on Cowan Terrace. A Stannah chairlift was installed up the stairs to the hall and balcony on Tuesday 9th November. An order has been placed for a wheelchair hoist (which can also be used by ambulatory persons) to be installed up the six steps inside the door. This is due to be installed on Wednesday 15th December. Two thirds of the cost has been met by the Church and one third by ‘Music for All.’
The means of access to be provided up the first two steps from street level is currently being discussed.

Text Box: MUSIC FOR ALL
Rupert’s ‘Music for All’ programme has benefitted recently by grants of £50,000.00 from The Garfield Weston Foundation and £20,00.00 from ‘Home Front Recall.’ A condition of the award of the latter grant is that all concerts receiving cash from this award must make reference to the heroes of World War II.

Text Box: YOUTH ORCHESTRA
The Sunderland Symphony Youth Orchestra has now been formed and meets on Saturday mornings at 10.00am at West Park, for young persons aged between 11 and 18 years. Instruction is available. With the closure of Usworth School, Rupert’s Usworth Youth Orchestra found itself without a home, and the Usworth group has formed the nucleus of the new youth orchestra.
