CANCELLED

Concert at DURHAM - June 15th

Concert at CORBRIDGE - August 31st

Rupert attended a meeting on Friday 31st May at which all final details for the Durham concert were agreed.

On Monday 3rd June a telephone call was received saying ‘Concerts cancelled.’

The full reasons behind the decision of the organisers are not yet fully known.

It is not just our concert which is cancelled – the WHOLE of the days activities on BOTH Saturday 15th June and Sunday 16th June are cancelled.

The Director of Sport for the University of Durham took this decision after consulting with The City of Durham Authorities and others involved, and quoted low ticket sales as one reason for the cancellation.

This is a great disappointment for the players who have worked hard practicing new music, including some which was specially requested by the organisers.

At least three members have given up work to be able to play at Durham.

The cancellation has serious implications for the finances of the Society, since the anticipated fees for playing were an important part of the year’s budget.
