CoSMOS
City of Sunderland Millennium Orchestral Society

NEWSLETTER
March/April 2002

Annual General Meeting

At the AGM on 6th March the existing officials were re-elected. Diane Scott-McGrath was appointed Orchestra Manager.

Membership subscription rates would remain the same for year 2003 as for this year.

Membership Renewal

Almost all of our members have paid their 2002 subscription. If you haven’t paid, please do so as soon as possible. Cash or cheque (made payable to CoSMOS) to Heather Peel.

Playing members who have not paid will be charged £1.00 per week as from now until the full amount is received.

Staging

Thanks to the Usworth School for donating, on long term semi-permanent loan, some staging. This will enable the musicians sitting at the back of the concert platform in the Church to be elevated in relation to the players sitting nearer the front. This has saved the Society a considerable sum of money!

Next Concert

SATURDAY 27TH APRIL We need to sell 400 tickets to break even, since there is no sponsorship for this event. All members and friends are urged to sell as many tickets as possible and to bring as many relatives and friends as they can!

The Web-Site!

The society web-site is now active, although not yet complete - visit it at
www.cosmossunderland.co.uk.

Thanks to Timothy Smith of Leicester for designing and organising the site from information supplied by the Chairman.

Future Concerts

Rival Arts of Newcastle have agreed to promote the concerts at Durham in June and at Corbridge in August. It is anticipated that 3500 tickets will be sold for each of these ‘Musical Extravaganzas’.

Doors (gates) open at 7.OOpm, and the programme starts with supporting musical groups; the highlight of the evening will be the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra. A 15 minute fireworks display will conclude the event!

‘Awards for All’

The timpani have been purchased, the computer system installed, the Notice Board is in position outside West Park Church and the Web-site is active.
