We wish Gary all the best in his new career and thank him for his contribution to the orchestra with his french horn and piano playing.
Gary will conduct ‘Jupiter’ from the Planets Suite at the concert in September.

Text Box: VE Day
The outdoor event to celebrate VE Day on the 8th May was washed out with torrential rain and part of the programme was cancelled. However, the Youth Orchestra and the Sing-a-long Chorus were able to perform in the marquee and the Orchestra played in the Church.
Audiences were, understandably, not as large as had been hoped for.
During the concert on the Sunday, the large Union Flag, which usually flies from the Church flagpole, was stolen from inside the Church while hanging up to dry after being used outdoors. Following publicity in the Sunderland Echo the flag was returned.

Text Box:   Several members again provided a ‘Palm Court Orchestra’ for the Summer Strawberry Tea at Holy Trinity Church in June. Leader was Stephen Hazlett.
The 10th Annual Youth Musical Spectacular in July at the Sunderland Empire once again had the pit orchestra provided by CoSMOS members, under the leadership of Rupert Hanson.

Text Box: Concert Classics Live on 14th May
The audience at the May concert was not as large as expected due to a clash of dates. The Sunderland Singers held their Annual Concert on the same date. Steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again.

Text Box: CoSMOS Vice-President

Vice-President John Lennox is  from Sunderland and was previously  a Lecturer in Sunderland University Business School.
John was a City Councillor for many years and was one of the three councillors who had the vision of forming CoSMOS and the Symphony Orchestra in 1999. John held the post of Vice-Chairman of the Society from its inception and did much work behind the scenes in guiding and encouraging the members. He was responsible for designing and producing all of the early advertising literature and concert programmes.
In the year 2003 John went to work at the Aeronautical College in Doha, Qatar, and decided to resign as Vice-Chairman.
At the Annual General Meeting of the Society in 2005 it was decided to offer John the honorary position of Vice-President in recognition of his enthusiasm and dedication in developing the Society and the Orchestra.
John's musical interests are wide ranging, from the 60’s to Wagner and he has sung Gilbert and Sullivan with Amateur Operatic Societies.
