Text Box: Research Project with Orthopaedic Surgeon
For several weeks in May and June, members of the orchestra co-operated with Jeff Auyeung, Specialist Registrar Orthopaedics, from Sunderland Royal Hospital, in connection with a research project he is conducting.
There is very little data available regarding the grip strengths of persons in relation to their dominant and non-dominant hands.
Jeff brought various items of test equipment to rehearsal nights, and most players spent about fifteen minutes providing data. Jeff was particularly interested in obtaining data from musicians, since they use both hands when playing.
