Rupert Hanson, born in
Sunderland,
was the Musical
Director for CoSMOS.
Having been called up for National Service, he
joined the Royal Air Force Music Services, where he studied French Horn and Singing,
eventually becoming the soloist of the famous RAF Central Band as well as being principal
tutor in conducting, vocal techniques and music history at the RAF School of music.
Rupert is a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM), and an
Associate of the Royal College of Music (ARCM).
Rupert has appeared on both stage and the concert
platform as a soloist and conductor in opera, oratorio and symphonic works. He has
travelled extensively throughout Europe, the USA, Canada, the Middle East and the Far
East, appearing on both radio and TV giving recitals, concerts and lectures.
Rupert attended
the International Training College of The Salvation Army, has worked in
the motor industry and is a member of the Institute of the Motor
Industry (MIMI).
Since 2000,
Rupert has worked as a Music and Performing Arts Consultant in the
Usworth area of the City
of Sunderland on a part time basis, teaching children, aged between 8 to
16 years.
Rupert has been awarded the Paul
Harris (Rotary International) Award: - Citation: 'In appreciation of tangible and
significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly
relations among peoples of the world through music and the arts'.
In addition to
being the appointed Musical Director for the Society, Rupert also
undertook the role of PR & Marketing Officer. This office made him a
Charity Trustee and gave him a seat on the Executive Committee. Rupert
also acted as Fund Raiser for the Society.
