Fill the Theatre

Tuesday, 8th October 2002

Sunderland Echo)

LAST Sunday evening, my wife and I attended the Promenade Concert given by the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra at the Sunderland Empire. It was an event to be remembered.

This orchestra, under the expert direction of Rupert Hanson, goes from strength to strength with every subsequent performance.

There was music for all tastes, from Abba to Tchaikovsky. Sarah Busfield was a delight to listen to, and those effervescent children from St John Boste RC School were absolutely wonderful. While the circle at the theatre was fairly full there were many empty seats in the stalls. At their next concert, let us make sure that all those seats are filled. Our orchestra deserves nothing less.

Jack Walton, Ravine Terrace, Roker.
