A SUNDERLAND orchestra has received a £4,000 boost from
the "Awards for All" grants programme. The City of Sunderland Symphony Orchestra
successfully applied for the award, and has spent about half of the money to buy a pair of
timpani.
Musical director Rupert Hanson said: "We are
absolutely delighted at being recognised. We have been going for two years and this is the
first major award we have achieved. We are making progress and this will certainly enhance
our performances." Sunderland Council leader Coun Colin Anderson presented the
timpani to timpanist Brian Naisby, at the orchestras rehearsal in West Park
Church.
