Dealers' concert sponsorship
helps young players and aids charities
It's music to
all our ears

HE KNOWS THE SCORE - Rupert Hanson, with members of
CoSMOS, rehearse for a concert.
TWO concerts held in the
region this year have raised some greatly needed cash for two deserving charities.
The concerts were sponsored by North East Ford Dealers as
part of their commitment to the City of Sunderland Millennium Orchestral Society (CoSMOS)
throughout the year 2000. One of the concerts, held at the Empire Theatre, Sunderland,
raised more than £1,200 for the Sunderland branch of the Royal National Lifeboat
Institution. The night, which saw the theatre packed, featured popular music for all
tastes and ages and the crew of the RNLI even made an appearance themselves to sing to a
delighted audience a number of sea shanties.
The second concert was in Morpeth in Northumberland. That
event was also well attended and raised more than £200 for the national charity,
Breakthrough, which concentrates on the Breast Cancer Awareness scheme Ford of
Britains chosen charity for this year.
Both concerts were organised by the musical director of
CoSMOS, Rupert Hanson.
Mr Hanson, now retired, spent many years as the business
centre manager for Patterson, and therefore holds Ford close to his heart.
He said: "For many years now Ive had two
passions music and my work with Ford. "Now Im retired its so
wonderful that I can combine the two through Fords generosity in sponsoring Cosmos
and helping these two concerts to be held." CoSMOS aims to help young and/or local
talented musicians fulfil their potential and reap the benefit of playing to live
audiences in a full orchestral context.
Nas Khan, chairman of the North East Ford Dealers group and
sales director for Jennings Ford, which has a branch in Morpeth, said: "Its
lovely to see the concerts weve sponsored having a three-fold benefit to the
community. Talent is getting to shine, people in local areas are having a chance to hear
beautiful live music, and money is being raised for worthy causes.
"What more could a conscientious company ask
for?" Further concerts are being planned. Keep your eye out for more details.
