A DEBUT concert at Sunderlands
Empire Theatre struck just the right note for local lifeboat crews.
The first big concert by the Sunderland Millennium Orchestra, better known as CoSMOS,
was music to the ears of the crews, as it managed to raise £1,200 for the Royal National
Lifeboat Institution.
Following their success, both in their playing and their fund-raising, the orchestra is
planning many more concerts to follow.
The cash raised was presented
to the lifeboat crew based in the station in Roker Marina.
Conductor Rupert Hanson (right) brought his baton along to conduct affairs at a
presentation on the Sunderland lifeboat. Pictured are (left to right) Ernie Laws, 2nd
coxswain, Clare Carruthers, Clive Fallon junior, Brian Robbie the secretary of Sunderland
RNLI, and Kathleen Mills, treasurer for the orchestra.
