IN TUNE: Rupert Hanson conducts members of the CoSMOS
orchestra in an impromptu concert on the seafront for refugees who are residents of the
former Park Hotel.
YOUNG musicians added another string to their bow when they
gave a special concert for city refugees.
Twenty members of the CoSMOS orchestra (City of Sunderland
Millennium Orchestral Society) put on a performance for 60 refugees staying at the former
Park Hotel in Roker. The musicians played a varied programme covering everything from
Vivaldi to The Beatles, and musical director Rupert Hanson said it was a brilliant
evening.
"The motto of CoSMOS is Music Makes Friends,
and that was why we decided to do this concert for the refugees.
"It went very well. Our young musicians did a fantastic
job and the refugees really enjoyed themselves.
"We incorporated works in the programme that they would
know and it was a huge success. We now intend to do many more concerts for them."
