Key role for church organist

A CONCERT with a difference will take place on Saturday at
West Park Church. The Live Popular Music Classics concert will start at 7.30pm and
features the grand organ of the church, played by church organist, David Mills, joining
with the City of Sunderland Symphony Orchestra. He will play the Maestoso Finale from the
Organ Symphony by French composer, Saint-Saëns, and will be a soloist in this work.
Sunderland-born Alison Barton, formerly of the Scottish National Opera is the mezzo
soprano on the night and will sing Operatic Arias from Carmen, Samson and Delilah and
Eugene Onegin. Musical Director Rupert Hanson said: "There's a feature in the concert
where the orchestra will all be playing a work with the organ of the church. It's unusual
and I dare say it's never been done in Sunderland before." Tickets are priced £5 and
