SUNDERLAND singer Gemma Busfield follows in her
sister's footsteps when she appears with the city's orchestra this
weekend.
Sister Sarah has already been a success as a solo
singer with Sunderland Symphony, and Gemma, 19, will be hoping to be
similarly on song on Saturday night.
The soprano will be performing works by Johan Strauss,
Mozart and Gilbert and Sullivan in a concert of vocal and instrumental
music.
Gemma, a former St. Anthony's School pupil, is no
stranger to the ensemble - she was formerly one of its violinists. She is
now studying at Birmingham Conservatoire.
The other soloist in the concert is cellist Gregory
Pullen. He and the orchestra will perform Saint-Saёns' Concerto in A
Minor.
A cello teacher in the North East, Gregory is also a
conductor and composer. He is the former assistant musical director of
Vienna Festival Ballet.
Also in the programme for the event, at West Park
Church, next to Sunderland Interchange, are orchestral works by Mozart,
Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Elgar and Beethoven.
The orchestra will be conducted by its musical
director, Rupert Hanson.
The show starts at 7.30. Tickets are £5, £8 and £10.
